Jacob Kight (b. 1992) earned the Doctor of Music degree in Percussion Performance at the Florida State University in 2020. While a graduate teaching assistant, he oversaw instruction and coaching of undergraduate performance majors, as well as the world-renown FSU Marching Chiefs Big 8 Drum Line. Currently, Jacob serves as Principal Percussionist of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and plays with Sinfonia Gulf Coast in Destin, Florida. He is a founding member of the Patterns Quartet.
In addition to Jacob’s concentration in solo performance, chamber music, and orchestral playing, he is also well-versed in hand drumming and accompanies classes at the nationally-acclaimed FSU School of Dance. As an educator, he teaches applied lessons and classes at every level (grade school to graduate students) and has worked with many influential educators in the percussion field, including Jeff Moore, Kirk Gay, Dr. Thad Anderson, and Dr. John W. Parks IV.
Fluent in contemporary audio and video recording technology, Jacob's projects have been distributed by Flying Horse Records, Garnet House Productions, and Ravello Records. Several of these opportunities have resulted in presentations at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, PAS Days of Percussion, and the McCormick Marimba Festival.
Jacob holds a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. He is a proud Innovative Percussion artist and endorser.
James "Cecil" Kight is a self taught woodworker with over 30 years of construction, welding, and metal fabrication experience. Although he is not a working musician, he does have a degree in Vocal Performance and Church Music from Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, TN. His expertise in construction and woodworking is the foundation of our products' quality and durability.
